Nene MacDonald: St Helens release centre by mutual consent

St Helens have terminated the contract of centre Nene MacDonald by mutual consent.

The 32-year-old Papua New Guinea international joined Saints on a two-year deal last December to link up with his former Salford coach Paul Rowley.

However, injuries restricted him to 13 appearances as the side failed to finish in the Super League play-offs for the first time.

MacDonald played in the NRL for Sydney Roosters, Gold Coast Titans, St George Illawarra Dragons, North Queensland Cowboys and Cronulla Sharks and has also had spells in England with Leigh and Leeds.
