An alleged activist planned to spray the word “Palestine” on a lawn at Boris Johnson’s wedding party venue, a court has heard.
Jurors at Southwark Crown Court were told police approached Tim Speers, 41, at a Cotswold estate as they thought he looked “quite out of place”. The former prime minister was due to celebrate his marriage to Carrie Johnson at the Gloucestershire site the following day.
During the opening of Speers’ trial, the jury was told police found Speers and another man – who is due to face trial at a later date – were carrying spray paint and super glue.
Speers, of Fairfield Road in Bude, Cornwall, denies having items with intent to damage property. The trial continues.
Jurors were told Speers and the man were stopped with cans of beers at the Daylesford Estate – which belongs to Conservative Party donor Lord Anthony Bamford – on 29 July 2022.
They initially refused to tell police why they were there and then said they were on holiday, the jury heard.
