London City Lionesses: Denmark’s Janni Thomsen signs two-year deal with Women’s Super League side

London City Lionesses have confirmed the signing of Denmark international Janni Thomsen from Utah Royals FC.

The 26-year-old defender has penned a two-year deal in the capital and is the latest – alongside Germany striker Nicole Anyomi and goalkeeper Mary Earps – to join Eder Maestre’s squad.

Thomsen has made 11 appearances in the National Women’s Super League so far this season for Utah Royals, helping them to second in the table at the halfway stage.

She also played for Denmark in the past two European Championships and the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

“I’m very proud to join London City,” said Thomsen. “This project is a serious project – they have big ambitions.”

After finishing sixth in their debut season in the Women’s Super League, London City have so far been the division’s most active side in the summer transfer window.

With two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas and Spain defender Mapi Leon also expected to join in the coming weeks, the Lionesses are continuing their drive to upset the WSL’s establishment.
