Jamie Varley denies murdering his adopted baby son Preston Davey

A former teacher who abused and then murdered his adopted baby son told detectives he would “fight them to the day I die” while protesting his innocence.

Jamie Varley, now 37, was arrested after the death of 13-month-old Preston Davey on 27 July 2023 and taken into custody for questioning by Lancashire Police.

Varley, described by Det Ch Insp Andy Fallows as a “manipulator”, denied killing the little boy after inflicting months of sexual and physical abuse.

Varley, from Blackpool, was convicted on Monday after an eight-week trial at Preston Crown Court.
