Corey Hall: Wakefield Trinity centre facing six weeks out of Super League

Wakefield Trinity centre Corey Hall is facing up to six weeks out with an ankle injury sustained in the win against Super League champions Hull KR last weekend.

The 23-year-old suffered ligament damage which, while not requiring an operation, is likely to keep him out of action for a lengthy period.

Hall’s injury setback adds to a selection headache for Trinity coach Daryl Powell with several key men unavailable for the visit of Wigan Warriors on Friday.

Mason Lino also misses the game with a calf problem while Jazz Tevaga is suspended and Josh Rourke and Olly Pratt remain injury doubts.

“We had everybody training last week, and then you go into one game and a few things happen, and it is what it is,” Powell told BBC Radio Leeds.

“Corey has done a syndesmosis really early on in the game. He’s not going to have it operated on but he’s had a scan and it’s still a decent injury so he’s going to be out for maybe six weeks.

“Mason [Lino] has done a calf. They’re not sure of the timescales on that but we’ve got a couple of late fitness tests as well and Jazz gets suspended, so it’s a little bit challenging.”

Surprise package Trinity have enjoyed an excellent first half to the season with nine wins from 13 putting them third, just two points off leaders Leeds Rhinos.

They entertain sixth-placed Wigan at the DIY Kitchens Stadium on Friday night as Super League reaches round 14 this weekend, halfway through the regular season.

Powell added: “We have a squad for a reason, and we’ve got players who are coming back into the team who I know are ready to play and are high-quality players.”
