County Tyrone native Conor McAneney has been suspended from all team activities by Florida State University following his arrest on Wednesday.

McAneney is alleged to have committed battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence and trespassing, according to Broward County jail records – the first two charges are third-degree crimes.

The 20-year-old was initially brought to Broward Health Medical Centre before he was charged at Broward County Jail, where he was being held on a $2,750 (£2,000) bond.

“While FLPD officers were attempting to detain McAneney, he became uncooperative and violent,” the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said.

“He was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting with violence and trespassing.”

McAneney swapped Gaelic football for college American football, featuring for Division II Quincy University last season before his transfer to the Seminoles who play in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

He was brought in to compete with Oklahoma State transfer Gabe Panikowski after converting seven of his 10 field goal attempts for Quincy, but is now facing an uncertain future following Wednesday’s incident in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
