Transfer deadline day: How many players are clubs allowed to loan out?

Premier League clubs are allowed to sign a maximum of two loan players at once from other top-flight English sides.

The rules mean Premier League teams are not allowed to loan in or out several players to another team in the same division.

The Premier League only allows clubs to sign a total of four loan players in one season, permitting room for two per transfer window without any overlaps. Should a loan become a permanent move during the season, it would not count towards the number of loans permitted.

Some players are exempt from this, with players aged 21 and under and club-trained players not counting towards the limitations.

The Premier League does not permit a club to loan a newly signed player to another Premier League team in the same window.

But the league allows loan players to play against the teams they are on loan from, should both clubs agree to it.

For players who were loaned out to a fellow Premier League team that then became a permanent deal during that season, both clubs are permitted to negotiate that the player does not play against their former club later in that season.
