Teenage girl with cold urticaria is ‘allergic to the cold’

A 16-year-old girl said she is “always scared” of having an allergic reaction after being diagnosed with a rare condition triggered by cold temperatures.

Amber Woodward from north Wales has cold urticaria – a rare allergy which can cause her to have a reaction to something as little as a gust of cool wind in summer.

She said it happens whenever the temperature falls below 12C (53F), causing her to miss out on plans with friends and feeling self-conscious.

But the A-level student remains hopeful about the future, as she is using new antihistamine injections every four weeks to improve her symptoms.
