A road in Leicester closed after a burst water pipe created a large sinkhole will remain shut until “at least” next week, a water company has said.
Victoria Road East was closed on Monday after leaking water caused cracks to appear in the road surface.
On Tuesday, Severn Trent said the repair work had been “more complex than first hoped” but added the burst pipe had been fixed.
The company has now said the “complexity of the road repairs” means the route will remain partly shut for several more days.
A Severn Trent spokesperson added: “We’re continuing to make repairs on Victoria Road East following a burst water pipe.
“While the pipe has now been fixed, the complexity of the road repair means we won’t be able to reopen the road fully until at least next week.
“We appreciate the disruption this will cause and thank everyone for their patience while we work as quickly as we can.
“We will be looking to partially reopen the road as soon as it is safe to do so, but until then, and to keep the public and our workers safe, we urge everyone to follow the diversion route provided and not drive through any road closures.”
