Pedestrian who died after collision named

A 71-year-old man who died following a road traffic collision in east Belfast on Saturday has been named as John Atkinson.

Police said they received a report at about 22:40 GMT on Saturday evening of a collision involving a Mercedes Vito and a pedestrian on the Upper Newtownards Road.

Mr Atkinson, who was from the Stormont area of Belfast, was pronounced deceased at hospital a short time later.

Chief Inspector Simpson, of the PSNI Collision Investigation Unit said that police are “continuing to investigate” and would like to hear from witnesses or anyone with footage of the collision.
