Oumar Traore wanted by police over fatal Handsworth stabbing

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Birmingham have named a 17-year-old boy they want to question.

Several attempts have been made by West Midlands Police to arrest Oumar Traore since the stabbing of 19-year-old Yassin Alama in Handsworth on Sunday. The force is now appealing for the public’s help to trace Traore.

Mr Alama was stabbed in Hutton Road at about 17:30 GMT. He died at the scene.

Section 60 powers – allowing officers to stop and search people without needing to have reasonable grounds to do so – are now in place in the local area until 07:00 on Tuesday.

Jenny Birch, from the force’s homicide team, said Mr Alama was the victim of a violent attack.

“Yassin’s family have been left absolutely devastated by what has happened, and we are doing everything we can to support them, and to give them answers,” she said.

“We need to find and arrest Traore as soon as possible.”

If members of the public have any information on his whereabouts, they are asked to contact the force.

The Section 60 powers have been put in place around Lozells, Handsworth Wood, Witton and near Nechells.
