A fire at a nail salon in south Belfast is being treated as arson with intent to endanger life by police.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said officers responded to a report of a fire on the Ormeau Road, shortly before 02:00 GMT on Monday, which subsequently spread to a property above it.

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service personnel also attended the scene, and extinguished the blaze.

The PSNI added that the occupants of the upstairs property were inside at the time and had to be moved, but there were no reports of any injuries.

Det Sgt McCallum of the PSNI said it “was a particularly reckless attack, and we are treating it as arson with intent to endanger life”.

The PSNI has appealed for anyone with information on the incident to contact them.
