Aaron Ramsey with Wales squad in unofficial role for qualifiers

Wales’ squad met at their base on Monday to begin preparations for the trip to Liechtenstein on Saturday and the home game with North Macedonia the following Tuesday.

Bellamy’s side are all but certain to be in the play-offs in March, and they can guarantee home advantage for their semi-final if they win both their final group matches to finish second in Group J.

After leaving Cardiff when his contract expired in the summer, Ramsey chose to prolong his playing career in Mexico having stated his ambition of representing Wales at next year’s World Cup.

But as was the case at his boyhood club in south Wales, Ramsey’s time with Pumas was interrupted by injury issues.

He has also had to cope with the disappearance of his dog in Mexico, which his family have said will “continue to haunt” them.

Ramsey and his family have now returned to their home in Cardiff and, although he is not in Wales’ playing squad nor officially appointed to the coaching staff, he will be able to contribute.

When he was injured at Cardiff last season, he helped with analysis during first-team games and with the coaching of youth teams.

Having completed his A Licence coaching badge, Ramsey has applied to study for his Pro Licence, the highest qualification and a requirement to manage in most top-level competitions.
