First day of school for Beatrix, the little girl who had heart transplant

A little girl who received a heart transplant when she was a toddler has started her first day of school.

“I would like to think that this day is what her donor family hoped for for her as well,” said Terry, Beatrix’s dad, as he held her hand when they walked through the gates.

“For such a long time we didn’t ever expect to see this day.”

Beatrix, now aged four, from County Durham, was the face of a photo campaign raising awareness of child organ donation.
