Police are hunting two masked men who carried out a “despicable” robbery at a bookmaker’s shop in Londonderry.

It happened just after 10:50 BST on Monday on Lecky Road, in the Brandywell area of Derry.

Police said one of the masked men was reported to have been carrying a weapon.

They said no one was injured but the shop staff had been left distressed and the intruders drove off with money.

“This will have been a distressing ordeal for staff to have experienced,” Det Sgt Gingell said.

“This was a despicable crime committed in the morning when people would have been out and about.

“The area would have been busy when this happened, and we’re keen to hear from anyone with information that can assist our investigation.”

Police have asked anyone with dashcam footage or who may have seen the suspects acting suspiciously in the area to come forward.
