The SNP will never bring back tuition fees

Scotland’s education secretary has vowed the SNP would never bring back tuition fees.

Jenny Gilruth told BBC Scotland’s The Sunday Show the policy had helped close the attainment gap by widening access to higher education to students from less well-off backgrounds.

Dundee University has announced plans to cut 632 full-time jobs – a fifth of its workforce – as it tries to tackle a £35m deficit.

Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Robert Gordon universities have also said that they are running in a deficit.
