Two taken to hospital after plane crash at Westonzoyland Airfield

Two people escaped with minor injuries after a small private plane crashed at an airfield in Somerset.

Emergency services were called at 13:05 GMT after the microlight aircraft flipped while attempting to land at Westonzoyland Airfield in Bridgwater.

Two people were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton to be treated for minor injuries, according to South Western Ambulance Service.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch said it had started a safety investigation and was making enquiries.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service sent two appliances to the scene.

A spokesperson for the service said the two-seater aircraft had “flipped on landing”, adding both occupants were “free and clear” by the time crews arrived.
