A woman was knocked unconscious after she was assaulted in Belfast city centre at the weekend.

It happened just before 03:30 GMT on Sunday morning as the woman and a man walked in the High Street area.

Two unknown males then entered into a verbal altercation with the pair, before one of them punched the man in the mouth and punched the woman to the ground.

She was treated at the scene, before being taken to hospital for further assessment.

Police said one of the suspects was reportedly wearing a long-sleeved, burnt orange short jacket with dark bottoms and dress shoes.

The other was also wearing a dark-coloured shirt and jacket, and jeans.

Several hours earlier, a man was taken to hospital for serious injuries after being attacked in the city centre.

Two men in their 20s were in Donegal Square West in Belfast city centre when they were assaulted by two unknown males at about 23:20 on Saturday.

One of the victims was punched in the left side of his face, before falling backwards and hitting his head off the pavement.

He is currently in hospital, having suffered a head injury and a cut below his eye. Police have said his condition is “serious, but not lift threatening at this time”.

The second victim was left with a number of facial injuries, including a cut to his nose and a split lip.

A police spokesperson said one suspect had dark hair, and was wearing dark trousers and shoes, as well as a blue jacket.

The second was also wearing dark trousers and shoes with a grey jacket.

Police have appealed for information in both cases.
