Barnsley crash leaves man dead and toddler critical

A man has died and a toddler is in a critical condition after they were hit by a car, police said.

The man, 56, died at the scene and the one-year-old boy is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following the incident, which took place in the Worsbrough area of Barnsley at about 11:40 GMT on Sunday.

South Yorkshire Police said the driver of the blue Volkswagen Polo had stopped at the scene and was assisting officers with their inquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has footage is urged to contact police.
