European Union sets out tariffs to tackle Chinese EV ‘threat’

Chinese electric cars may become pricier in the European Union (EU) after politicians called them a threat to its own electric car industry.

It has “provisionally concluded” that three Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers will face tariffs from 4 July “should discussions with Chinese authorities not lead to an effective solution”.

The decision comes off the back of an ongoing investigation into what the EU believes is China’s “unfair subsidisation” of its EV industry.

It launched the probe last September after raising concerns about cheap Chinese electric cars flooding the European market.
