A man has been arrested after a 78-year-old woman died in Edinburgh following an incident with a weapon on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called out to a house in the city’s Fernieside Crescent about 08:25, with the woman pronounced dead at the scene.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death and inquiries continue.
BBC Scotland News understands gunshots which locals reported hearing were a Police Scotland tactic used to access the property.
The PA news agency said that it was understood the incident had involved a weapon.
