Former Celtic captain Scott Brown, who was sacked as Fleetwood Town manager in September, has been interviewed for the vacant head coach’s job at Ayr United.

Three other candidates were interviewed over Sunday and Monday, with the board hoping to make a decision on Tuesday.

The Scottish Championship club sacked Lee Bullen last week after a goalless draw with bottom side Arbroath.

That left Ayr only two points off the foot of the table before facing Arbroath again on Tuesday evening.

Saturday’s 3-0 win against League One visitors Kelty Hearts in the Scottish Cup under caretaker Davie White ended a run of five games without a victory.
