Sammy Braybrooke has joined League Two club Chesterfield on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Newport County but left after his short-term loan deal ended on 31 December.

After joining the Exiles on deadline day the Leicester City midfielder impressed, starting every game for the Exiles registering two goals and two assists during his time in Wales.

Newport boss Christian Fuchs will be disappointed the influential midfielder was not able to extend his stay and help in the relegation battle.

Braybrooke previously told BBC Sport Wales he was keen to stay beyond December: “I’d love to stay. It’s a good environment to be in and all I really want to do is play games and enjoy my football, which is what I am doing.”

A graduate from the Foxes academy – who made his senior debut for Leicester against Newport in the 2022-23 EFL Cup – Braybrooke featured in Premier League squads and Europa League squads under Brendan Rodgers before a knee ligament injury in February 2023 slowed his progress.

He made nine appearances for Dundee in the Scottish Premier League before being recalled in January by then-manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, but did not make a Premier League appearance.

Braybrooke joins League Two Chesterfield as they chase promotion to League One.
