Mark Aston: Sheffield Eagles suspend head coach

Sheffield Eagles have suspended head coach Mark Aston amid a Rugby Football League investigation into a medical compliance matter.

The Championship outfit have also suspended physio Mick Heys before the pair face an operational rules tribunal.

Aston won the Challenge Cup with the Eagles as a player in 1998 and has been in charge of the South Yorkshire side since 2007.

“The club has moved to suspend Mark Aston and Mick Heys from their duties, on a no fault basis, until the operational rules tribunal has taken place, effective immediately,” the club said in a statement., external

“Interim arrangements to cover the suspended staff will come from within the existing coaching team with both members of staff being offered welfare support during this time.”

The Eagles are third in the second tier, one point behind second-placed Toulouse.
