Ross County 0-2 Hibernian: Porteous & Boyle on target in Dingwall

Hibernian recorded their third back-to-back win in the Scottish Premiership after defeating Ross County in an engrossing clash in Dingwall.

Ryan Porteous continued his stellar Scotland form and Martin Boyle added a second as Hibs won just the third away game in their last 13 league attempts.

Malky Mackay’s side often showed flashes of attacking intent but failed to find a cutting edge.

County now sit just one point above the relegation play-off spot.

Porteous, fresh from a Scotland debut midweek against Ukraine, twice went close in the early stages as a free-kick whistled by the post and a dipping 30-yard shot was punched clear.

The game hit a slight lull before Owura Edwards had the best chance of the first half.

William Akio and Ross Callachan combined well to slip Edwards in. His shot really should have nestled in the bottom corner of the net but David Marshall made himself big to block.

The star of the first half, Porteous, followed up his impressive opening 45 display with a goal-scoring start to the second half. A long throw-in ping-ponged around in the Ross County box before the 23-year-old reacted quickest to sweep it home with a left-footed strike.

The away side should have doubled their advantage through Mykola Kukharevych but his shot, at the second time of asking from a trademark Boyle cutback, didn’t find the back of the net.

With just 10 minutes left on the clock, though, Chris Cadden drove to the edge of the box and sent a low cross for Boyle to calmly convert.

Man of the match – Ryan Porteous

The defender's performance this afternoon stood out consistently as simply being a decent chunk better than anyone else's all-round game in Dingwall. A goal always helps too.

County toil with no goals in sight – analysis

Porteous’ contract runs out at the end of the season and that should have alarm bells ringing around Easter Road.

Lee Johnson wants his side to play attacking football with a clear emphasis on building from the back and Porteous is the player linking it all together right now for Hibs.

Neither side had a terribly profitable afternoon in front of goal with a lack of cutting edge letting them both down at times. Hibs won’t mind too much now with three points going back to Edinburgh, though.

Ross County have had that problem all season with a handful of chances left unconverted again this afternoon. A goalscorer is needed, and fast, for Mackay’s side.

More to follow.
