A volunteer who helped in a massive river clean which has seen 6,000 tyres removed, said he does not understand why people do not take their rubbish to the tip.

Organisers have described the past five days as Wales’ largest community river clean, with hundreds of volunteers taking part at the River Ogmore in Bridgend.

Two years ago, 2,000 tyres were removed from the bed of the river, along with up to 100 trolleys, and a fridge.

Andrew Stride, is from Ogmore Angling Association and said the rubbish and pollution “could infect [insects], and they could be gone, which is going to affect the fish, everything, especially the salmon and the sewin.”
