Rebel Moon’s Zack Snyder explains emotional detail in ‘favourite scene’ | Films | Entertainment

Zack Snyder has shed light on one of his personal favourite moments in Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver.

The hotly anticipated second installment of the sci-fi franchise is now streaming on Netflix, and diehard fans will have already devoured the action-packed blockbuster.

Before Kora (played by Sofia Boutella) and her band of warriors take on the Imperium, though, the team is given a fleeting moment to rest from the intense training and preparations for the coming battle.

In one of Rebel Moon’s most poignant scenes, the heroes are presented with beautifully designed banners which represent their true selves.

“The banners were designed by my prop team,” Zack explained. “And also, a lot of the symbolism is from Adam Forman [who managed the visual effects for Zack’s films Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice].

“He’s one of the designers I work with. So Adam and I and the prop guys… my original doodles are pretty close, also, to what they look like.

“That was a great team and they all came together.”

While Kora’s allies, including Titus (Djimon Honsou) and Millius (E Duffy), are, for the most part, overwhelmed with pride by their symbolic gifts, cyborg swordmaster Nemesis (Doona Bae) seems more conflicted.

She quietly cries to herself when she’s presented with a banner adorned by lightning, and later on viewers discover more about her violent and deeply tragic past leading up to her fight against the Imperium.

Zack called the moment one of his “favourite” scenes and explained how Nemesis’ reaction speaks volumes for the otherwise secretive cyborg.

“Nemesis’ reaction is really interesting because, if you look closely, I think it’s more about the fact that she kind of feels for the first time that this group, these people, are treating her like a family,” the director explained.

“It’s really bringing back a lot of memories for her, emotionally, about the situation with her own family.

“The idea that [Sam] (Charlotte Maggi) says ‘the storm is the mother of us all’ is really the thing that gets her.”

In our chat with Zack, the blockbuster director also revealed he could be working on a smaller movie first before getting stuck back into the world of Rebel Moon with three more potential sequels.

He also teased some new faces could be thrown into the mix after many of the warriors died in battle during Part Two.
