The A&E department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary was temporarily evacuated on Friday evening

A man has been arrested after two people were assaulted at a hospital, forcing an emergency department to be evacuated.

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary temporarily closed its A&E department on Friday evening after police and fire crews were called.

Patients were urged to stay away and two people were treated for injuries at the scene before it reopened a short time later.

Police Scotland said a 37-year-old man had been arrested over the incident and inquiries were ongoing.
