Lamborghini driver guilty of causing M62 death crash

The driver of a rented Lamborghini which hit speeds of more than 140mph (230km/h) on a motorway has been found guilty of causing the death of her friend in a crash.

Humaira Batool, from Bradford, was driving the hired Urus model supercar before it struck a barrier on the M62 and set alight, killing her 20-year-old friend Mohammed Shaan Hussain.

During a trial at Leeds Crown Court, jurors were told the Lamborghini was driven by Batool “at grossly excessive speeds of up to 143mph in wet conditions” on the motorway near Ripponden, West Yorkshire, in the early hours of 21 December 2022.

The 26-year-old was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and will be sentenced on 2 November.

The trial heard Hussain, also from Bradford, had rented the vehicle and planned to use it to collect a friend from HMP Leeds.

Prosecutor Christopher Dunn told jurors he collected his friend Batool from her home at about 04:00 BST.

However, CCTV footage showed the defendant, who initially travelled in the passenger seat, getting out at traffic lights and taking the driver’s seat, switching places with Hussain.

Batool told the court she had “panicked” and got in the driver’s seat, after Hussain insisted she take the wheel as he was unable to drive.
