Olympic silver-medallist Katarina Johnson-Thompson has withdrawn from her first heptathlon event since last year’s Paris Games because of a minor injury.

Johnson-Thompson, 32, was to take part in the prestigious Gotzis Hypo Meeting to be held in Austria on Saturday and Sunday.

But the two-time heptathlon world champion said on Thursday that she is “really gutted” to not be competing at the weekend after picking up the injury in training.

“I was really looking forward to competing in my first heptathlon since Paris, especially at Gotzis as the event is so special,” Johnson-Thompson said in an Instagram post.

“It is with a heavy heart that I’ve had to make this decision. Thankfully the injury is nothing serious and I’ll be back on the track shortly.”

The Great Britain athlete won her first Olympic medal in four Games when she finished behind Belgium’s Nafissatou Thiam in Paris.
