I’m a car expert – never buy these used vehicles, they’re unreliable with steering issues

Used cars you should never buy

Dodge Grand Caravan

Erickson said the boxy minivan was discontinued in 2020, but there are still a ton of these available on the secondary market.

He said they are known to have reliability issues.

Lincoln Aviator

The Aviator was singled out for its reliability issues by Consumer Reports in 2020 and 2021, Erickson said.

The main trouble spots are electronics, climate systems, bench and power equipment, body hardware, leaks, and more.

Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 always seems to be on lists for unreliability, according to Erickson. He said both the L-Wagon, retired in 2020, and the X-Subcompact SUV, made the US World List of used cars to avoid in 2023.

Mini Cooper

While Erickson said he likes the look of a Mini Cooper, they tend to be unreliable, meaning you’ll pay a lot in repairs.

Transmission failure is the biggest complaint among owners of 2005 Mini Coopers, and it’s also known to have clutch and power steering issues.

Chevy Spark

A reviewer complained the 2022 model isn’t a good car. While the car is very affordable when buying new, early models had oil consumption and transmission failures.

Redesigns of the car still suffer from “worrisome steering and unyielding stiff ride.”

Volkswagen Eos

This car is not only too expensive, it’s not flashy enough for the price.

It was discontinued in 2015 and prone to mechanical problems, including issues with the convertible top and windows.
