Four arrests after fight and firearm discharged in Gamesley

Four people have been arrested after a fight and what is thought to be a firearm was discharged on Christmas Day, police say.

One man, in his late teens, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after he was assaulted in Bradwell Lea at about 16:20 GMT on Thursday, Derbyshire Police said.

A second man, also in his late teens, was taken to hospital with stab wounds to his abdomen after attending Glossop Police Station shortly after the assault was reported.

Police said CCTV from the scene shows what appears to be a firearm being discharged, but neither of the men who are in hospital have gunshot injuries.

The force added that it was “not believed that anyone has been injured by a firearm”.

It confirmed three men and a woman had been arrested in connection with the assault, after armed officers attended a property in Hollins Lane, Gamesley.

“At this time, it is believed that all those involved in the incident have been detained,” a police statement said.

“While the investigation is in its early stages, it is believed that the victims and suspects are known to one another and there is no wider risk to the public from those involved.”

The man with head injuries remains in hospital “in a serious condition”, the force said, while the man with stab wounds is also in hospital in a stable condition.
