FC Halifax Town 1-2 Wrexham: Paul Mullin’s late strike completes Dragons fight back

Paul Mullin’s last-gasp winner capped a fine comeback by Wrexham to deny Halifax Town the chance to go third.

Halifax led when Shaun Brisley was caught in possession by Matt Warburton, before picking out Jordan Slew who shot through the legs of Rob Lainton.

James Jones replied with his first goal for Wrexham, shooting from an acute angle from Jordan Davies’ set-up.

Then with time almost up, Davies’s early ball was touched on by Jordan Ponticelli for Mullin to pounce.

Wrexham are now in eighth, just one place off the play-off places and three points behind Halifax in fifth.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: “First of all I’m humbled by the support we had tonight after a draw at home, a bit of a flat performance, to come out here and see over a 1,000 fans – but not just that, when we conceded the goal the way they stood by the team. I thought they were absolutely brilliant for us.

“When we conceded it could have gone one of two ways, but we went the right way and got back into the game in terrific fashion. The lads showed great character tonight, they really did and it’s a great win because Halifax have got a good home record.

“It [the winning goal] was a bit of brightness, the quick free-kick showed our intent from 1-1 and what a great finish from Mulls [Mullin] – I thought he was back to his best tonight… he held the ball up, he challenged, ran the channels and got his reward with a goal in the end.”
