Robbie McDaid’s goal late in the first half gave Glentoran victory over HB Torshavn in Thursday’s Europa League preliminary round match in Belfast.
The Irish Cup holders will now be away to Scottish Premiership team Motherwell in the first qualifying round on 27 August.
After a dull opening 41 minutes, McDaid netted a superb first-time right-foot finish to make the breakthrough.
Debutant keeper Dayle Coleing made two good saves to keep Glentoran in front.
Relive the key moments from Glentoran v HB Torshavn
The slender victory was Belfast club Glentoran’s first success in Europe since 2011.
Torshavn came into the match five points clear at the top of their domestic league, after 15 wins from 17 matches.
There were few chances before McDaid’s quality strike in the 42nd minute which was set up by Ruaridhri Donnelly’s perfectly-weighted pass.
