Two refuse wagons have been damaged by fires caused by hazardous materials put out with household rubbish, said Cardiff Council.

Firefighters were called to tackle the latest fire in a bin lorry in the capital, with bike batteries deemed to have been the likely cause.

The authority is warning people not to put batteries, gas canisters, vapes or other such items in their general waste following the second blaze in two weeks.

“Incorrect disposal puts our crews, residents and the public at risk,” it said. “Please use the appropriate recycling and disposal facilities.”
