It’s milder for now with frost-free mornings but will it rain

With a reinvigorated jet stream in place for much of the week the dominant weather pattern will remain unsettled. Further areas of low pressure from the Atlantic are expected to bring blustery showers and longer spells of rain across many parts of the UK.

Temperatures are set to fall slightly through the week, starting above the January average and trending closer to the seasonal norm by the weekend.

With chillier air returning to Scotland on Monday into Tuesday, the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice, external.

Tuesday will see sunshine and blustery showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Elsewhere England and Wales will remain mostly cloudy, with further spells of rain, which could be heavy at times.

It will start to feel colder, particularly across the north, with some snow returning to mountain tops in the Grampians and Highlands.

After a frosty start Wednesday will be dry, bright and chilly. Wet and windy weather will move north-east on Thursday, followed by blustery showers on Friday.

Temperatures are expected to stay around the mid-January average, though slightly milder across England and Wales.
